Phlebotomy Technician – Apheresis/Donor Center

Position Highlights
- Monday–Friday schedule between 5am-330pm (may work outside of duty hours due to mobile blood drives)
- (Hours will not exceed 40 hrs in a one week period)
- 8hr-12hr shifts based on duty needs
- Travel IS REQUIRED. may use transportation provided by facility or use personal vehicle

Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Graduation from an accredited training program resulting in certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), Health and Human Services or American Medical Certification (most preferred), (2)A degree or certificate of graduation from an approved/accredited training program.; or (3) 12 months of experience as an apheresis technician within the past 24 months
Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). Health and Human Services of American Medical Certification. A degree or certificate of graduation from an approved/accredited training program.
Experience
- Minimum of 12 months of phlebotomy experience after graduation within the past 24 months
Immunization Requirements (Must be current or able to obtain):
- Hepatitis B (series and titer)
- Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
- Varicella (Chickenpox)
- Tuberculosis (TB) test
- Current Influenza (flu) vaccine
- COVID-19 vaccine (if applicable)
Key Responsibilities
- Perform standard and special phlebotomy procedures, including venipuncture, fingerstick, and heel-stick techniques
- In-process patients, review documentation, and provide guidance throughout specimen collection
- Assemble and prepare phlebotomy equipment according to procedure requirements
- Interview donors, take vital signs, and draw/test blood for donor screening
- Train and supervise new staff or volunteers in phlebotomy procedures
- Maintain cleanliness and inventory of the phlebotomy area; document all samples per SOP
- Educate patients on specimen collection procedures and requirements
- Conduct CLIA-waived tests (e.g., pregnancy tests) per FDA and lab standards
- Ensure compliance with military and laboratory regulations (AABB, CAP, CLIA, JCAHO)
- Assist in all aspects of mobile blood drives, including setup, donor registration, blood collection, and site breakdown
- Monitor donors for reactions and initiate emergency procedures if necessary
- Perform donor apheresis, blood processing, labeling, inventory, and shipment
