Registered Nurse – Maternal Child Department, Inpatient OB (Coverage)
Location: Portsmouth Naval Medical Center, VA

U.S. Got People is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Maternal Child Department (Inpatient OB Coverage) team. This role provides essential care and services to veterans, service members, and their families—making a meaningful impact through compassionate, high-quality healthcare.

- Shifts: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM or 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
Education Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from a college or university accredited by:
- The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), or
- The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
Experience & Certifications
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience in women’s health or medical-surgical nursing within the past 2 years
- Basic Fetal Monitoring Certification (AWHONN) – current and valid
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification – current and valid
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association
- Active, unrestricted RN license in the United States
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a full range of nursing care, including triage, patient assessment, monitoring, and implementation of treatment plans.
- Execute physicians’ orders within standard nursing guidelines and document all care accurately.
- Offer patient education and emotional support throughout the care process.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, performance evaluations, and process enhancements.
- Identify and assess early signs of physical, emotional, or mental health issues; address psychosocial needs accordingly.
- Assist physicians with OB/GYN-specific procedures and treatment plans.
- Maintain accurate patient charts, records, and documentation in both paper and electronic formats.
- Coordinate follow-up care and referrals with other healthcare professionals and community services.
- Provide emergency care and manage stable phases of chronic conditions.
- Prepare and administer IVs, ensuring proper placement and monitoring.
- Serve as a patient advocate, ensuring that care is compassionate, comprehensive, and patient-centered.
- Complete the MTF IV placement test successfully.
